The Sur-Prep 3500-2 Exterior Fuselage Structure Surface Prep Kit can be used to prepare bare exterior aluminum structure for corrosion protection or for painting and sealing. Once applied to aluminum the conversion coating material solution is clear. This kit should only be used for fuselage areas. Do not use on interior structure, wing structure or on fuel tanks. For interior structure, use the Sur-Prep 3500-1 Non-Decorative Interior Surface Prep Kit.
Instructions For Using The Sur-Prep® 3500-2 Exterior Fuselage Structure Surface Prep Kit.
Note: Both mating surfaces should be cleaned and conversion coated prior to painting or
(A) Remove any loose paint or sealant with a micarta scraper.
(B) Vacuum area to remove any loose debris, metal shavings, and dirt.
(C) Lightly abrade entire area of parts to be sealed or painted using Step 1 - Scotchbrite with alkaline cleaner. Be sure to remove the alcad identification marking.
(D) Wipe area with Step 2 - Deionized water towel to remove soap residue immediately followed with the dry wipe.
(E) Repeat with a second water wipe and dry the area.
(F) Solvent clean area with Step 3 -Deodorized Citra Safe® wipe. Do not allow the solvent to dry on the surface. Wipe it with the dry wipe.
(G) Apply conversion coating:
For 12 gram kit-Place the unfolded Step 4-conversion coating material towel on the surface.
For 1 oz kit-Unfold the towels and wet with conversion coating material, taking care to keep
conversion coating material off adjacent areas and high strength steel. Place towels
on the surface.
(H) Allow the towels to sit on the surface for 2-5 minutes. Do not allow the conversion coating material to dry on the surface.
(I) Neutralize the conversion coating material by wiping with Step 5 - Deionized water. Immediately follow with the dry wipe.
(J) Place all used towels in plastic bag. Remove all air from the bag and seal. Dispose of plastic bag as hazardous waste. (Caution: DO Not Allow Conversion Coating Material Towels To Dry Or (Spontaneous Combustion May Occur).
(K) Apply paint or sealant within two hours, if required.
1) Alkaline Cleaning Solution Pad that is labeled as Step 1
2) Deionized Water Wipe and Dry Towel that is labeled as Step 2
3) Citra-Safe® Deodorized Wipe and Dry Towel that is labeled as Step 3
(Caution: Combustible Flash Point. 120°F. Avoid skin and eye contact. In case of skin contact,
remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly with soap and water. If splashed into
eyes, flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes or until irritation subside. Wear nitrate gloves
and safety glasses or goggles when handling this product. Consult SDS for additional

(Danger: Chromic acid mixture. Corrosive to skin and eyes. Avoid skin and eye contact. Avoid
breathing mist from solution. Wear safety goggles or face shield and nitrate gloves when
handling this product. In case of eye contact, flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, then
seek medical attention. Consult SDS for additional information.)
5) Deionized Water Wipe and Dry Towel that is labeled as Step 5
Available in a 12 gram kit (104089) and a l oz kit (104090)
The 12 gram kit is for areas of 1 square foot or less.
The 1 oz kit is for areas of 1 to 3 square feet.
